Can you work as a freelance data scientist? - Of course you can!
I think you have two choices to pursue such an activity:
1. Freelance on the business side
Here you help people get their business in order before they even get involved in the execution of the project.
Because this is exactly the point where people need the help of a data scientist. Someone who can tell them roughly whether or not that's possible with data science.
Because domain and business development experts may not be able to judge this the way you can as a data scientist.
2. Freelance on the proof of concept side
However, it is also possible that you help while the execution is running and you basically do freelance work for the execution.
But that's not always very easy, because what you usually want to do is have a team of data scientists in house so they can work and do the whole thing.
As you can see, it is very possible to work on a freelance basis in this area.
